Frequently Asked Questions

Contributions & Supporter Bundles

What specific benefits do I get by contributing to the WPA?

Supporting the WPA means contributing to a critical mission aimed at elevating the web publishing industry.

Your contribution will cultivate professionalism and pride among web publishers while enabling the WPA to advocate for the recognition and value of web content creation.

As a contributor to any of our supporter bundles, you’ll gain access to a wealth of resources, tools, and discounts provided by our partners and members.

Moreover, contributing to our Platinum Supporter Bundle gives you a head start on future membership. If accepted into the WPA when our membership program launches, your Platinum Bundle contribution will be credited towards your membership fee.

By joining forces, we can effectively promote the interests of web publishers across various media and platforms. The impact of our efforts depends on the support we receive from the community, and your contribution plays a crucial role in achieving our shared goals.

Is the contribution tax-deductible?

The WPA is a nonprofit organization awaiting IRS determination. We have submitted all the required paperwork to obtain 501(c)(6) status and expect approval by the end of 2024. Once approved, contributions will become tax-exempt retroactively.

In the meantime, web publishers and other businesses may be able to claim their contribution towards our Supporter Bundles as a business expense, depending on their individual circumstances.

To determine if your contribution qualifies, we recommend consulting with a local tax professional.

What happens if I change my mind after making a contribution? Is there a refund policy?

Contributions to the WPA and purchases of Supporter Bundles made through the Teachable platform are subject to Teachable’s standard refund policy. The Teachable Student Guide provides more details on this policy.

Contributions made to the WPA outside of the Teachable platform are not covered by Teachable’s refund policy. If you have questions about refunds for transactions not processed through Teachable, please contact us directly and we will gladly assist you.

WPA Membership

Do I become a member by contributing the $300 towards the Platinum Bundle?

Contributing $300 to the WPA for our Platinum Bundle is a one-time, non-recurring transaction that grants you access to the exclusive WPA Platinum Supporter Bundle.

If you apply for WPA membership in the future and are accepted, your Platinum Bundle contribution can be applied towards your first annual membership fee, subject to the terms of the membership program.

Please note that this contribution does not guarantee acceptance as a WPA member, and that contributions towards other bundles (Silver/Gold) or made directly through credit card, PayPal, Zelle, or Venmo are not eligible to be applied towards membership fees.

How can I become a member?

The WPA has been set up as a nonprofit trade association. To become a member, you’ll need to submit a membership application once our membership program is launched.

The application process will be designed to ensure that all members align with the WPA’s mission and values, and contribute to the growth and success of the web publishing community.

How much will membership cost?

The exact cost of membership in the WPA is still being determined and will be announced when the membership program is officially launched.

We are working diligently to create a pricing structure that is both accessible and sustainable, ensuring that the WPA can continue to support and advocate for web publishers in the long term.

Are there any requirements or restrictions for joining the WPA as a member?

While the specific requirements for WPA membership are still being finalized, our goal is to create a diverse and inclusive community of web publishers who share our vision and values.

We anticipate that members will need to demonstrate a commitment to ethical and professional web publishing practices, as well as a willingness to participate in and contribute to the WPA community.

How will the WPA support and advocate for its members?

The WPA aims to support and advocate for web publishers by:

  • Providing educational resources, training, and networking opportunities to help you grow your skills and stay up-to-date with industry best practices.
  • Advocating for the interests of web publishers in discussions with major platforms, advertisers, and other key stakeholders in the digital ecosystem.
  • Promoting the value and importance of web publishing to the general public, helping to build recognition and respect for the work you do.
  • Fostering a supportive and collaborative community where web publishers can share knowledge, experiences, and resources.

The extent and impact of our support and advocacy efforts will depend on the level of engagement and backing we receive from the web publishing community.

About the WPA

Who are the people behind the WPA, and what experience do they have in web publishing?

The WPA was founded by a group of experienced web publishers who recognized the need for an organization that represents and supports the interests of the web publishing community.

Our board members have diverse backgrounds and expertise in various aspects of web publishing, including content creation, audience development, monetization, and more.

It’s important to note that our board members are volunteers who have invested significant time and resources into establishing the WPA. They are not compensated for their work with the association; instead, they are driven by a shared passion for advancing the web publishing industry and supporting their fellow publishers.

Each board member has made substantial contributions to the creation and development of the WPA, often alongside running their own successful web publishing businesses.

This level of dedication and personal investment demonstrates their commitment to the WPA’s mission and their belief in the power of a united web publishing community.

To learn more about the individuals behind the WPA, please visit the Who We Are page, where you can find detailed bios and information about their experience and contributions to the world of web publishing.

What is the WPA’s stance on important issues affecting web publishers, such as privacy regulations, content policies, and platform changes?

The WPA is committed to representing the interests of web publishers and ensuring that their voices are heard in discussions about industry policies and practices.

We believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive community of publishers who are free to develop their businesses in ways that align with their values and goals, as long as they adhere to legal and ethical standards.

Our stance on specific issues will be informed by the feedback and concerns of our members, as we strive to represent a wide range of perspectives within the web publishing community.

Rather than policing publishers, our focus will be on communicating the concerns and needs of publishers to policymakers, platforms, and the media, advocating for policies and practices that support the growth and sustainability of the industry.

How will the funds raised through contributions be used to support the WPA’s mission?

The funds raised through contributions will be used to establish a solid foundation for the WPA and create the infrastructure needed to support our members and advance our mission. This includes:

  • Developing educational resources, webinars, and other content to help web publishers grow their skills and adapt to industry changes.
  • Building a network of legal and financial professionals who can provide guidance and support to members as they navigate the challenges of running a web publishing business.
  • Covering operational expenses associated with running the WPA, such as technology, marketing, insurance, and administrative costs.

As the WPA grows, we plan to seek additional funding through sponsorships from key players in the web publishing industry. This will allow us to expand our advocacy efforts, potentially engaging legal and public relations professionals to help promote the interests of web publishers to policymakers, platforms, and the general public.

We are committed to using the funds we raise in a transparent and responsible manner, always focusing on initiatives that directly support our mission and benefit the web publishing community.

Community Involvement

Can I get involved in shaping the direction and initiatives of the WPA as a member?

Member involvement and volunteering will be crucial to the success and growth of the WPA. We value the insights, expertise, and contributions of our members and encourage them to take an active role in shaping the direction and initiatives of the association.

As we continue to develop the WPA’s structure and programs, we will be seeking additional board members and volunteers to help guide and support our efforts. By getting involved, members will have the chance to directly influence the WPA’s priorities, programs, and resources, ensuring that the association remains responsive to the needs and goals of the web publishing community.

How can I collaborate with other WPA members and contribute my own expertise to the community?

Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are key values of the WPA, and we are committed to providing opportunities for members to connect and learn from one another.

As part of the WPA Supporters Bundle, contributors will receive free access for one year to the Fat Stacks forums, where they can interact with other web publishers, share insights, and seek advice on various aspects of web publishing.

In the future, we plan to establish additional networking opportunities for members, potentially including mastermind groups and conferences. While we cannot share specific details at this point, we are actively exploring ways to facilitate meaningful collaboration and peer-to-peer learning within the WPA community.

Please keep in mind that our team consists primarily of volunteers who are dedicating their time and effort to building the WPA while also managing their own web publishing businesses. As such, we kindly ask for your patience and understanding regarding the timeframe for receiving a response.

At this stage, we are focused on establishing the foundation of the WPA and developing the resources and programs that will support our members in the future. While we aim to provide general guidance and assistance whenever possible, we are not yet able to offer personalized mentoring or consulting services related to individual web publishing businesses.

However, as the WPA grows and evolves, we plan to introduce more comprehensive support and educational resources for our members, potentially including mentorship opportunities and tailored guidance for web publishers at different stages of their careers.

In the meantime, we encourage you to stay connected with the WPA community through our mailing list and to take advantage of the resources and networking opportunities provided through the WPA Supporters Bundle.
